Intended as a replacement for some higher-end products from Nvidia, the company is said to have approached several Chinese tech companies regarding testing the technical feasibility of the new chip.

Reports in the Wall Street Journal said that Huawei is hoping that the latest iteration of its Ascend AI processors will be more powerful than Nvidia's H100, and it plans to begin mass shipments to customers as early as next month.

Huawei has struggled to match Nvidia in building high-end chips and the US has cut China off from Nvidia's most advanced AI products, including its flagship B200 chip.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Huawei is expected to deliver more than 800,000 Ascend 910B and 910C chips this year to customers and AI companies such as ByteDance.

Some customers have also reportedly been talking to Huawei about boosting 910C orders following the Trump administration’s export restrictions on NVIDIA’s H20 chips, announced last month.

By blocking Chinese access to key AI chip components US restrictions on sales have forced Huawei into focussing on building faster, more efficient systems rather than enhancing individual chip performance.

In April, Huawei introduced the CloudMatrix 384, a system connecting 384 Ascend 910C chips which it said outperformed NVIDIA’s flagship rack system under certain conditions, despite higher power consumption.
