Renesas joins working group to speed multicore software development

Renesas Electronics has become the latest member of the Multicore Association (MCA) - a global, non-profit organisation focused on developing standards that help speed time to market for products that involve multicore implementations.

"Renesas is a leading innovator in the areas of microcontrollers and SoCs for applications spanning automotive, audio/visual devices, communications and factory automation," said MCA president Markus Levy. "Renesas' involvement will provide well rounded guidance and a practical perspective on designing with multicore technology." The MCA is working to enable the widespread adoption of multicore processor based implementations by setting standards for how systems will be utilised and programmed. As an executive board member, Renesas will help the association drive standards for deploying multicore solutions in high performance embedded systems. "We strongly support the MCA and its mission to guide the long term development of open standards for multicore solutions," commented Renesas' Dr Fumio Arakawa. "As we advance the technology within our products based on multicore and manycore architectures, it will become critical for our development tool partners to have a standardised interface to the hardware – this in turn will benefit our customers and support quicker time to market."
