Freescale net sales down 44%

Freescale Semiconductor has announced net sales of $824million for Q2 2009, down 44% from a year earlier.

While net sales were down, the chipmaker's chairman and ceo, Rich Beyer, said that this was primarily due to its decision in 2008 to exit its cellular handset business, as well as a decline in sales associated with its automotive business. Beyer explained: "We are weathering this downturn and handling the things that need to be done so that we come out of it as a better company. We continue to make solid progress in the transformation of Freescale. Our second quarter results demonstrate that we are reducing costs, improving profitability and positioning the company for long term growth."
