Bluetooth module offers 1Km range

A new Bluetooth module said to be capable of offering a 1Km range has been launched by 2001 Electronic Components.

According to the company, the WT41 Long Range Bluetooth Module offers a range of 1Km between two WT41 Bluetooth modules by incorporating Bluegiga's radio frequency design methodologies. The modules are Bluetooth 3.0 + EDR compliant, with integrated Bluetooth radio, Bluetooth stack and profiles and incorporates the option of chip antenna or U.FL connector. The modules have a transmit power of 20dBm and implement a low noise amplifier, designed to 'significantly' improving the modules sensitivity down to -90dBm. An embedded Bluetooth stack firmware, iWrap is said to enable a powerful command interface, while standard HCI over UART/USB is available, as well as the possibility to develop custom firmware. The WT41 is targeted at applications including m2m, medical and industrial devices, point of sales systems and automotive diagnostic units.
