MRAM pioneer Everspin Technologies says it recorded revenue for its first 40nm 256Mbit STT-MRAM products in Q4 2017 and is currently ramping to volume production in 2018.

STT-MRAM is said by the company to be a ‘significant advancement’ in MRAM technology, with its memory density opening new market opportunities. Alongside this, the 256Mbit STT-MRAM features an innovative ST-DDR3 interface, improving MRAM performance.

“Our 256Mbit STT-MRAM is the first perpendicular MTJ STT-MRAM to enter mass production,” said Kevin Conley, Everspin’s president and CEO. “This is both a testament to the technical strength of Everspin’s team in design and technology, as well as the productisation strength provided by the collaboration with Globalfoundries. This is a bellwether milestone in the evolution of this disruptive technology and we are very excited about the advantages that the capacity and performance of this product brings to our customers.”

“Globalfoundries is excited to see the first STT-MRAM from the Everspin partnership reaching production,” said Dave Eggleston, vp of embedded memory. “The movement of discrete STT-MRAM to volume production is an important milestone on the way to enabling our risk production release of 22FDX eMRAM later this year.”
