European semiconductor demand holds its own

Sales of semiconductors in Europe amounted to $2.7billion (€2.46bn) in February 2016, according to the European Semiconductor Industry Association which noted sales were ‘substantially flat’ compared to January, when sales were $2.721bn.

While the latest figures saw exchange rate effects playing a smaller role compared to January, sales on a Euro basis declined by 2%. The association pointed out that sales in Europe declined less than in other regions, as global demand dropped compared to the previous month.

In Europe, semiconductor sales were driven by optoelectronic devices (+8.3%) compared to January; sensors and actuators (+5%); discretes (+3%) and analogue devices (+2%). Sales of application specific devices in Europe were also said to have increased compared to January.

Globally, semiconductor sales in February 2016 were $26bn, down 3.2% versus the previous month.
