Europe flat, but global semi sales rise slowly

Sales of semiconductors in Europe generated $8billion in the first quarter of 2016, according to the European Semiconductor Industry Association (ESIA).

In March, European sales were $2.667bn, a 0.1% increase compared over February 2016, Globally, sales in March reached $26.1bn, up 0.3% from February and 5.8% higher than in March 2015.

According to ESIA, most of the main product categories showed steady growth. Demand for discrete semiconductor devices rose by 10.3%, while sales of sensors and actuators increased by 9.9%. Analogue and logic device revenues grew by 7.5% and 6.7% respectively.

However, exchange rates affected the European sales picture in March, said ESIA. When measured in Euros, semiconductor sales were €2.42bn, 0.6% lower than in February.
