Europe ‘only region’ to see semi sales growth in January

Sales of semiconductors in Europe amounted to $2.836billion in January 2017, an increase of 4.8% compared to January 2016 and 1.2% more than in December 2016.

According to the European Semiconductor Industry Association (ESIA), Europe was the only region monitored by World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) that registered month on month growth in January.

In terms of product categories, the main drivers were said to be sales of sensors and actuators (up 4.9% compared to December 2016), discrete semiconductors and logic devices (each up 2.2%), and analogue devices (up 1.2%). ESIA said ‘good growth’ was also seen in application specific devices, in particular for automotive applications.

Measured in Euros, European semiconductor sales were €2.663bn in January 2017, 2.5% more than the previous month and 6.6% more than in January 2016.
