Euro semi sales ‘return to growth’

Semiconductor sales in Europe increased in June compared to May 2016, according to the European Semiconductor Industry Association (ESIA). Overall, European semiconductor sales were $2.67billion – 1.7% higher than the previous month. In Euros, sales were €2.364bn, a 1.3% increase over May 2016.

Sales for most of the main product categories grew, compared to May 2016, with ESIA reporting a ‘particularly sharp’ increase in demand for logic chips (+5.3%), MOS microprocessors (+4.8%) and MOS DRAM (+7.6%). Sales of discrete, optoelectronic and analogue devices also grew.

Meanwhile, global sales of application specific chips also grew robustly, especially for semiconductors designed for automotive, consumer, wired and wireless communication, and computer applications. This, says ESIA, adds to the positive outlook.

Globally, sales of semiconductors were $26.355bn, 1.1% more than in May. Worldwide sales in second quarter also increased by 1.1% versus the previous quarter.
