Since the launch of ChatGPT, NVIDIA has seen both its revenues and stock price surge which has given it the financial muscle to support a growing number of AI startups.

Last year, NVIDIA participated in 49 funding rounds for AI companies, up from 34 in 2023, and far more than the 38 AI-related deals it made in the previous four years.

NVIDIA’s investment strategy seems to be focused on backing startups deemed as “game changers and market creators.”

Key investments have included early support of OpenAI, where it contributed $100m to a $6.6bn funding round, and a $130m investment in Inflection, a company founded by DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman, underscoring its confidence in AI technologies.

NVIDIA has also joined several other major funding rounds, investing in companies like Wayve, Scale AI, and Crusoe.

Key to these investments by NVIDIA is not just the financial support its offering but its aim of encouraging the AI ecosystem to maintain its competitive edge in the future.

So, it looks quite possible that plenty of new AI startups could benefit from NVIDIA’s financial backing.
