Murata introduces power line inductor for automotive PoC applications

Murata has introduced the LQW32FT series of inductors for use in automotive Power Over Coax (PoC) circuits. The inductors maintain stable operation, save on PCB space and reduce component count and weight.

PoC is being used with SERializer/DESerializer (SerDes) equipment in automotive applications to reduce weight by deploying a single coax cable to transfer power and image data to and from an onboard camera. In previous PoC implementations, several large and small impedance inductors were needed to handle the broadband signal at the circuit processor and to maintain high impedance over a wide bandwidth to separate the signal and power.

Murata’s LQW32FT series allows a single inductor to replace the multiple components that were previously necessary, saving space and reducing the overall size of a system, as well as lowering the total DC resistance.

Featuring good saturation characteristics, the LQW32FT series inductors provide high impedance over a wide target frequency bandwidth range of 4 MHz – 1 GHz (47 uH). The inductance value currently available is 47 uH in a 1210-inch size (3.2 × 2.5 mm) surface mount package size. The inductor also features a very wide -55 to 125°C maximum environmental temperature range capability, making it eminently suitable and very robust for automotive circuits.

The LQW32FT series will be expanded to support further high-speed signal transmission applications as needed in this emerging market.
