Fully integrated SVID and PVID enabled voltage regulator

An integrated point-of-load (IPOL) family from Infineon Technologies is said to combine high power density with ease of use.

According to Infineon, this is the industry’s first fully integrated regulator that offers PMBUS, SVID and PVID functionality for powering Intel CPU POL rails, chipsets and ASIC/FPGA. Infineon also says that its IPOL allows for a 50% saving in space when compared with alternative external power solutions.

The IR38163/5 and IR38363/5 are tailor-designed for powering Intel V ccio and V cmp rails and intel-based server applications which require SVID support.

The IR38363/5 apparently offers 3bit parallel VID (PVID) for powering Intel chipset P VNN rails and FPGA.

The PQFN package is said to measure 7 x 7mm with a copper clip that enables the devices to operate up to 30A, at high frequency with minimal airflow.

Pin compatible options are available with and without PMBus support.

The family features Infineon’s PWM engine, which is meant to provide low ripple, minimise noise and control bandwidth, whilst requiring fewer capacitors.

According to Infineon, true differential voltage sensing, wide margining range and a 0.5 % V ref accuracy, work together to deliver a V out accuracy greater than 1%.
