Ethernet switch chip is ‘TSN ready’

A real-time Ethernet Multi-protocol (REM) switch chip from Analog Devices is said to form part of its high performance deterministic Ethernet connectivity portfolio for connected motion and Intelligent Factory applications.

Called fido5000 and developed by the company’s Deterministic Ethernet Technology Group (formerly Innovasic), the part is said to reduce board size and power consumption while improving Ethernet performance at the node under any network load condition.

Said to be suited to synchronised connected motion applications such as robotics, it attaches to Analog’s ADSP-SC58x, ADSP-2158x and ADSP-CM40x motion control processors, bringing EtherCAT, PROFINET IRT and POWERLINK connectivity.

Cycle times of less than 125µs can be achieved and the chip comes with drivers to simplify integration with any Industrial Ethernet protocol stack.

For Intelligent Factory applications, fido5000 can be integrated with any processor, protocol or stack, making it easy to incorporate a single Industrial Ethernet interface supporting multiple protocols into any application.

Described as ‘time sensitive networking ready, fido5000 provides a means to future proof applications as Industrial Ethernet protocols evolve.
