Digital PoL converter to power FPGAs and ASICs

The OKDL-T/60-W12 from Murata is a 60A, 95 % efficient addition to the OKD family of digitally controlled point of load (PoL) DC/DC converters. The power module is suited for FPGA and processor applications in networking, computing, and telecom systems.

The module is said to operate over a Vin range of 4.5 to 14V DC, and provides a user adjustable output ranging from 0.6 to 1.8V DC with an efficiency of 94.9%. Available in SMT and LGA formats, the module measures 25.1 x 14.1 x 7.0mm.

The PMBus compliant module is delivered with a default firmware configuration suitable for a range of applications and is configurable to meet specific application requirements. The PMBus protocol is claimed to provide full configuration and monitoring of the converter via a set of industry standard digital commands.

The module offers advanced power conversion management features such as Dynamic Loop Compensation (DLC). With DLC, the module loads the ideal loop compensation coefficients by detecting output parameters.

Other features include current sharing, voltage tracking, remote on/off control, synchronisation, and phase spreading control that reduces input capacitance requirements and reduces efficiency losses.

The power module is certified by Architects of Modern Power to be gigaAMP compliant and multi-sourced with true plug-and-play compatibility.

The module protection features include output short circuit, over power, over voltage, over temperature, and input under voltage.
