A/D converter enables smaller medical imaging equipment

A new, quad channel a/d converter has been announced by Texas Instruments.

The ADS5263 is designed for medical applications such as magnetic resonance imaging and is claimed to be the industry's first. The 16bit device has a signal to noise ratio of 84.6dBFS, with 10MHz input and a sampling frequency of up to 100Ms/s. It has a power consumption of 380mW/channel and, according to TI, enables engineers to create smaller and faster medical imaging systems. Steve Anderson, senior vp of TI's High Performance Analog business unit, said: "Taking advantage of both our data converter expertise and our long standing experience in medical imaging applications, manufacturers can use the performance and compact footprint of the ADS5263 to deliver smaller, faster equipment with outstanding image quality for more efficient scans and increased patient comfort."
