USB 3.0-SATA3 bridge SoC cuts bom costs

Renesas Electronics has announced the availability of its new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to SATA Revision 3 bridge SoC.

The µPD720231 is said to integrate 40% less components than competing devices with equal functions, reducing bom costs significantly. Features include an embedded voltage regulator and power-on reset circuit. The SoC supports SuperSpeed USB transfer speeds of up to 5Gbp/s, as well as the SATA Revision 3.0 6Gb/s bit rate. It can store firmware in SATA devices such as hard discs and SSD and can also omit external serial flash ROM.
