‘Industry's first’ SuperSpeed usb 3.0 solution

Cypress Semiconductor has introduced what it claims to be the industry's first highly programmable, SuperSpeed usb 3.0 solution.

Targeted at video and imaging, printing and scanning applications that require high bandwidth, the EZ-USB FX3 (CYUSB3014) device is a peripheral controller with a general programmable interface that is optimised to deliver a 5Gb/s usb 3.0 data pipeline, a fully configurable ARM9 processor core and backwards compatibility with usb 2.0. With an internal bus architecture designed to operate at four times the usb 3.0 speeds, Cypress claims the device is ideal for moving large amounts of data extremely fast. "Cypress has been leading the wave of usb adoption with low, full and high speed solutions and will continue to do so with the SuperSpeed usb 3.0," said Dinesh Ramanathan, executive vp of Cypress' Data Communication division. "We're working with our customers to help deliver end market products that enable consumers to take advantage of usb 3.0's bandwidth."
