Trade group formed to promote business benefits of M2M

Responding to the predicted growth in demand for M2M and the internet of things, a group of technology providers has formed a global trade association that aims to highlight the business benefits of the communications technologies.

The International M2M Council's (IMC) mission is to increase adoption of M2M technology worldwide by promoting M2M technology to vertical markets, establishing metrics and best practices for M2M deployments, educating professionals about M2M and advocating for M2M technology with governments. "The IMC intends to show vertical markets how M2M works and what's in it for them," said Chris Baker, a senior vice president with Oracle. "M2M is creating new business models, but many of these companies have not been involved in deploying connectivity. M2M cuts across broad and diverse markets, and the key to evangelism success will be tapping the resources of IMC member companies." With research starting later this year, the IMC intends to begin publishing results in Q1 2014. Founding members are Deutsche Telekom, Digi, Kore Telematics, ORBCOMM, Telit and Oracle.
