Top UK engineers win coveted industry accolade

Some of the UK's brightest and most influential engineers have been honoured with a prestigious Achievement Award from the IET.

This year's winners included Sir Michael Pepper, Pender Professor of Nanoelectronics at University College London; Professor Graham Trevor Reed, from the University of Southampton's Optoelectronics Research Centre; and Dr Pantelis Georgiou MIET, from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London. The Awards aim to recognise individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the advancement of science, engineering and technology in any sector, either through R&D in their respective technical field or through their leadership of an enterprise. Nigel Fine, pictured, chief executive of the IET, said: "The Institution of Engineering and Technology Achievement Awards recognise individuals who have made a truly outstanding contribution to engineering, from talented young professionals through to engineers at the pinnacle of their careers. "The IET is passionate about promoting engineering excellence and the Achievement Awards showcase some of the world's best engineering talent."
