Software tool predicts battery life for Gecko based applications

Energy Micro has introduced a software tool that allows designers to accurately predict battery cell life expectancy in applications featuring its EFM32 Gecko microcontrollers.
The energyAware Battery Estimator provides a full simulation of total system energy usage, with system battery voltage output displayed against time in a graphical format, with the battery capacity rating (mAh), average mcu current consumption (µA) and estimated system operating time shown alongside numerically. The simulation, including energy modes, operating times and peripheral functions and external component current consumption, is set up using graphical user interface featuring drop down menus, slider bars and checkboxes.

Battery Estimator can model the performance of the seven most popular battery cell types, arranged in single cell or series or parallel connected multicell configurations. The tool allows the selection and analysis of the EFM32's five energy modes, as well as its high and low frequency clocks. Available as a part of Energy Micro's Simplicity Studio software console, energyAware Battery Estimator tool also provides the ability to store simulation projects for future reference.
