Premier EDA Solutions, the UK reseller of Altium electronic design software and its associated services, has announced its support for WorldSkills UK.

The company has donated more than £1million worth of equipment and training to support the competitors who are taking part in the national WorldSkills UK Industrial Electronics Competition and those who are in training for WorldSkills Leipzig 2013. "The skills gained by competitors are immediately transferrable to industry," commented Premier's managing director, Phil Mayo. "As a number of them are already employed in apprenticeships, we know that we are making a tangible difference to UK electronics. "One of our long term goals is to encourage and enable young talented people to enjoy viable careers in the UK electronics industry. Having been involved on the periphery of WorldSkills London 2011, we are delighted to play an active part in The Skills Show. By providing our expert design skills training for the competitors, we strive to make a positive difference – not just for the competitors but for the industry too." The UK will enter the electronics competition at the next international WorldSkills competition, which takes place from 2nd to 7th July in Leipzig, Germany. Apprentices Heather Peach (pictured), 19, Gareth Humphreys, 19, and Michael Cox, 19, all employed by MBDA UK, are currently in training with Squad UK. They will battle it out for the one single place in Team UK to represent the UK in electronics in March next year.
