Powerline standard down to two contenders

The battle for the IEEE Powerline standard has been reduced to a choice of two approaches following an agreement by SiConnect to merge its submission to the forthcoming IEEE P1901 powerline communication coexistence standard with that submitted jointly by the Consumer Electronics Powerline Communication Alliance (CEPCA) and the Universal Powerline Association (UPA). The other contender is the proposal from the HomePlug Alliance.

SiConnect’s vp marketing, Russell Haggar, said: “We are delighted that SiConnect’s QoS supporting coexistence mechanism has been incorporated into the CEPCA-UPA coexistence proposal. Engineers from all three groups have worked hard at combining their ideas to create this proposal and we all hope this joint proposal will be adopted at the forthcoming meeting.”
