Numonyx extends phase change memory portfolio

Numonyx has launched a set of memory products based on phase change memory (PCM). The devices are said to deliver higher performance, endurance and simplicity in a range of applications. The embedded memories blend attributes associated with flash, ram and eeprom. Devices in the Omneo PCM range are said to offer write speeds 300 times faster than flash, along with ten times more write endurance.

Glen Hawk, pictured, general manager of Numonyx' embedded business group, said: "Designers have to use different memory types for code storage and execution, as well as data storage. Now, with Numonyx Omneo PCM, they have a simple, one device solution." The Omneo P5Q PCM is a 90nm device delivering high-speed SPI-compatibility. Combining serial NOR and eeprom benefits, the parts support byte alterability, faster programming and greater endurance. Meanwhile, the Numonyx P8P PCM is the second release of the 90nm 128Mbit parallel product, with endurance extended to 1million write cycles.
