Multiple users – same audio stream

1 min read

A new Bluetooth application allows multiple users to listen to the same audio stream on different headsets connected to a mobile device.

Unveiled by MindTree and Texas Instruments (TI) at the GSMA Mobile World Congress, the application is built on MindTree’s EtherMind stack and profile ip suite and has been integrated into the Gstreamer framework. This enables ready integration with a range of other multimedia components already available for this framework. The OMAP34x processor based development platform streams audio over Bluetooth technology using TI’s WiLink6.0 WLAN/BT/FM integrated solution, via the WL1271chipset, available in TI’s development platform. MindTree’s president and Co-ceo, research and development services, Vinod Deshmukh (pictured), said: “This unique application not only needed the foundation of EtherMind, a robust Bluetooth stack, but also required innovative ways to overcome technical challenges like synchronisation among multiple headsets. This multiuser audio streaming application on TI’s industry leading OMAP platform and proven WiLink integrated connectivity solution gives us leverage in the mobile phones space,” he added. TI’s marketing manager, connectivity platform, Eran Sandhaus, added: “Consumers increasingly look at mobile handsets not only as communication devices, but as tools to share music, pictures and other information with friends and family anytime, anywhere. The combination of MindTree’s Bluetooth multicast technology with TI’s proven WiLink and OMAP technologies is enabling the next generation of peer-to-peer use cases.” MindTree’s relationship with TI started in 2003, and has evolved over the years. The primary areas of work include wireless communications, consumer electronics, and automotive and medical spaces.
