LoRa evaluation kits for Europe and North America

Microchip has launched what it says are the industry’s first complete LoRa technology evaluation kits, which provide all the components required to create a low power wide area network for the North American (915MHz) and European (868MHz) markets. Each kit includes two Motes – LoRaWAN sensors – based on Microchip’s RN2483 or RN2903 LoRa modules, a LoRaWAN gateway and a local LoRaWAN server application.

Each kit can serve as a building block for the development of a LoRa network with a range of up to 10 miles and 10 years of battery life using two AAA batteries.

Because the Motes are FCC Certified (DV164140-1) or European R&TTE Directive Assessed (DV164140-2), Microchip says time to market can be reduced significantly.

LoRa technology is suited to low data rate, low duty cycle applications in such sectors as energy, location, infrastructure, smart city, environment, agriculture and public safety. Although mainly used for sending data, LoRa supports bidirectional communications.
