Intel invests €50million in Ireland

According to IDA Ireland, Intel will invest more than €50 million in a major expansion at its R&D facility in the Shannon Free Zone. The investment could create up to 134 jobs over the next four years, bringing the total employment to approximately 300.

The investment will support two projects. The first is a hardware project involving advanced 32nm silicon design and validation. The deliverable will be a chip for embedded applications said to feature a ‘significantly improved design’. The second project is a software development project, extending Intel’s QuickAssist technology. Jim O’Hara, general manager of Intel Ireland and vice president of its technology manufacturing group, said: “In our highly competitive and rapidly changing global markets … establishing a high performing team with strong technical, managerial and leadership skills is critical to being able to build new products that lead in the marketplace.”
