IMEC unveils multiprocessor design tools

IMEC has launched a suite of tools and methods designed to optimise the mapping of applications onto embedded multiprocessor SoCs.

Although such devices have begun to appear in a number of applications, mapping them to multicore architectures remains challenging, says the research institute, adding the vastness and complexity of the design space makes the task 'virtually impossible' without the proper tool support. IMEC MPSoC technology provides solutions by focusing on design time application mapping. The technology's two main threads offer support for fast parallelisation and support for memory hierarchy optimisations. IMEC's tools have been used by IMEC's industrial partners for in house IMEC MPSoC implementations, such as IMEC's multicore platform for software defined radio and a multicore multimedia platform using six ADRES processor cores.
