Imec, Altera to explore fpgas at 10nm

Imec and Altera have broadened their strategic research collaboration. Initially, the two organisations focused on 3d process technologies, but the collaboration has been widened to encompass process development kits for logic technology.

The two organisations will also work on 14 and 10nm cmos technologies and assess the readiness of patterning, finFET and interconnect technology options for use in fpgas. "Altera is an important partner in imec's technology design ecosystem," said Luc Van den Hove, imec's president and ceo. "This agreement is yet another confirmation of the value and relevance of our INSITE offering." The INSITE programme provides designers in fabless, fablite and IDM companies with technology data that can be used for early assessment of the impact of these technologies on product roadmaps and the potential for future products. Altera's chief technology officer Misha Burich added: "As fpgas continue to evolve as a result of silicon convergence, it is imperative our devices leverage the latest, most advanced technologies. By collaborating with imec on very deep submicron technologies, we assure our future products will deliver the capabilities that enable our customers to be successful."
