CMOS d/a converter is ‘world’s fastest’

Fujitsu Semiconductor Europe has launched an 8bit, 4channel d/a converter in 40nm cmos technology, which it claims is the fastest in the world.

The single die solution is designed for data conversion at 2Tb/s to and from analogue to digital and boasts a sampling rate range of between 55 and 65GSa/s per channel. The low power (0.75W/channel) device also supports long haul optical transport systems, providing data links of 100Gb/s and higher over a single lambda. Manfred Mettendorff, director of the communications business unit at Fujitsu, said: "This effort not only underpins refinements in the current generation of 100Gb/s systems, such as broader feature sets and power optimisations for smaller form factors, but will also enable 400Gb/s transport rates and beyond." Other features of the 65GSa/s device, according to Mettendorff, include 'unparalleled' ultra fast sampling rates, high resolution, low noise, small footprint and wide bandwidth signal generation for OTU4 signals.
