AVX launches smallest 6A SMT single IDC discrete wire-to-board contact

AVX has expanded its 917x series of discrete wire-to-board connectors with the launch of the 9176-400 series contact and cap.

According to the passive components and interconnect manufacturer, it is the smallest discrete surface mount IDC wire-to-board connector with a 6A rating. 917x series connectors are designed to fit almost every application where there is a requirement to connect a single wire to a pcb. AVX says the new connector offers a smaller profile and lower cost alternative by providing a low cost SMT termination point for 22-24AWG wires, especially for SSL and industrial applications. Individual contacts can be located anywhere on the pcb. The new component is said to enable a range of devices to be connected to pcbs without soldering, by inserting a wire into the SMT contact with a small tool or optional retention / termination cap. While the IDC contact provides a connection to conductor of the wire, the optional cap provides a positive strain relief in severe vibration applications. AVX' product manager, Tom Anderson, said: "This new single contact meets the cost and performance requirements for the repeatable wire termination of leaded devices and individual wires for harsh environment applications. In solid state lighting applications specifically, these contacts are used to bring power and signal onto the pcb or to daisy chain multiple boards together in a long string. Other important applications include smart grid meters and industrial devices."
