Arduino compatible board can ‘talk’ to your iPhone

The world's first Arduino compatible microcomputer that can communicate wirelessly to any smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth v4.0 has been touted by wireless start up Open Source RF.

The RFduino is an open source, standalone board aimed at everyone from hobbyists to professional engineers. The coin sized, 2.4GHz board runs a 32bit ARM Cortex M0-based processor and can be powered by a household power outlet, usb or coin cell battery. Its developers claim it can 'talk' a person's iPhone using Bluetooth v4.0, enabling users to do things like wirelessly monitor temperatures, remotely measure battery voltages, control multicolour led lighting and drive lcd displays. Open Source RF is currently trying to raise funds on Kickstarter for a manufacturing run of the RFduino and for shield accessory boards.
