£2.75million available for collaborative feasibility studies

The Technology Strategy Board, Invest Northern Ireland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise are to invest up to £2.75million in collaborative feasibility studies to stimulate innovation in advanced materials; biosciences; electronics, sensors and photonics; and information and communications technology.

The organisations says their aim is to ensure that small and micro businesses in the UK are well equipped, and suitably integrated within supply chains, to respond to market opportunities across a range of economic sectors. According to the collaborators, preference will be given to proposals that have a tangible output – such as a demonstrator or mock up – and these should focus on one or more of the following areas: photonics; sensor systems; plastic electronics; electronic systems; and power electronics. Projects must be led by a small or micro company, in collaboration with one or more business or research partners. Projects are anticipated to have budgets of up to £150,000 and to last for up to 15 months. The competition opens on 6 May 2014 and the deadline for applications is noon on 25 June 2014.
