Rohde & Schwarz Seminar - LTE, IoT and the road to 5G

1 min read

Rohde & Schwarz are offering a FREE one day seminar on LTE, IoT and the road to 5G. The seminar will be held at The Royal Berkshire Conference Centre, Reading on Thursday 12th November.

Presentations will be supported by practical examples of solutions. Delegates will be given the opportunity to engage with subject matter experts, and network with industry peers.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

Long Term Evolution (LTE) is the technology of choice for the majority of network operators worldwide, providing mobile broadband data and high-speed internet access to their subscriber base. Worldwide 400 operators have launched LTE using more than 800 devices. This big success story has seen LTE as the fastest growing mobile communication technology ever, and brings ongoing challenges to improve and enhance the technology. The name alone, 'LTE-Advanced' (LTE-A) shows that this technology is constantly evolving and advancing, bring greater benefits to the user's and network operators.

This seminar will provide details about the technical capabilities of LTE contained in the latest 3GPP releases, including; carrier aggregation, device to device (D2D), enhanced MIMO, Machine Type Communication (MTC), dual connectivity; and cooperation with non-cellular technologies, for example, WLAN off-loading, LTE-WLAN coexistence and License Assisted Access (LAA).

Internet of Things (IoT) is gaining more awareness and momentum. Forecasts project a rapid increase in the number of devices that will connect wirelessly. This seminar will give a short overview of the major technologies involved in IoT, discussing those belonging to cellular and non-cellular access. The latter touches on technologies like Bluetooth's evolution to BT low energy; WLAN evolution; and new radio access technologies including NFC, Zigbee and Z-wave, to name a few.

The future predicts a step to a new generation of wireless access technologies, to address many requirements including higher data rates and increased network capacity. Called '5th generation mobile networks' or '5G', this access technology will build on and possibly see the convergence of some existing technologies. Already significant money has been invested into research projects around the world. The goal of this seminar is to provide an overview of the major requirements, research activities, standardisation timelines and technologies involved to realise 5G.
