UK Power Conversion Distributor PowerPax launches the Mornsun LN range, a new series of PCB mounting AC/DC switching power supplies that solve the problems associated with power supplies that utilise electrolytic capacitors. In general electrolytic capacitors are a key component of switched mode power supplies but they suffer from shortcomings including large internal losses, large deviations in electrostatic capacity and poor high/low temperature characteristics. The result of these issues can lead to power supplies that suffer from poor reliability and short lifespan in extreme temperature environments.

The LN series of 1 – 3W AC/DC converters solves the problems of poor high/low temperature characteristics and short lifespan by excluding electrolytic capacitors from the design in favour of temperature tolerant components and techniques. The range has an input of 165-264VAC/233-370V DC with input to output isolation of 3KV AC (min) and outputs of 5V, 12V and 24V in a compact package. The maximum efficiency of this product family is 78% with output voltage accuracy of ±2%, line regulation of ±1%, load regulation of ±1% and ripple and noise of 50mV P-P typical. Standby power consumption is a maximum of 0.3W for 1W and 2W parts and 0.4W for 3W parts. All models feature self-recovering short circuit and over current protection.

This high quality product line meets EMI class B, without the need for external components, and conforms to surge immunity to Level 4 standard.

The results of not using electrolytic capacitors gives this product range an average life that is 1.5 times that of converters using them. This series also features an input range of -40°C ~ +70°C and operates within specification over the entire range without the need for de-rating.

The LN series AC/DC converters are suited to a wide range of applications including LED lighting, instrumentation and metering, communications and industrial control, mining and the electric power industry which all require high reliability and long life.
