XP Power launches 30W medical power supply

The EML30 series of 30 Watt single output ultra compact AC-DC power supplies from XP Power has been designed for use in medical applications. The series comes with what is being described as the smallest footprint and the highest power density in the industry when compared to other similar power supplies with medical safety approvals.

Factors driving the demand for this type of unit are the desire for, and the development of, smaller portable medical equipment. Accordingly, the EML30 is suitable for customers who require medical safety approvals and where the power source needs to occupy minimal space. The EML30 is also ideal where the requirement is for a Class II input type power supply and where no ground / earth connection is needed.

The device's open frame PCB mount version measures 75.2 x 34.6 x 26.7mm (2.96 x 1.36 x 1.05 inches), offering a power density of 7.1 W per cubic inch.

The EML30 is available in a range of mechanical formats and there are open frame versions with either PCB mount or with connectors, encapsulated models with either PCB mount or screw terminals, and a DIN rail mount option.

A wide range of eight single output voltages embracing 3.3, 5, 9, 12, 15, 24, 36, and 48 VDC are available. To power short term high power loads, a peak current capability of up to 130% of nominal rated power output is available, so there is no need for designers to specify a more expensive higher rated power supply.

The power supplies feature a wide operating temperature range of -25 to +70 degrees C, with no derating until above +50 degrees C. Using convection cooling, the EML30 is able to provide full power without additional heat sinking or airflow.

The EML30 meets the requirements of EN60601-1:2006, ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1:2005, and CSA-C22.2 No. 60601-1:2008, offering 2 x MOPP between primary and secondary circuits.

The series meets the limits for Class B conducted and radiated EMC specifications of EN55022 without the need for any additional external filtering components.
