Wide input DC/DC converters target harsh environments

Luso Electronics is making available the RHKW/RHDW series from P-Duke. These are high performance DC/DC converters with 3000VAC reinforced isolation with 4.5mm clearance/creeping distances for safety critical applications.

This next generation of board mountable DC/DC converters has been designed especially for railway and other industrial applications where harsh conditions are typical.

The series consists of 3-40W DC/DC converters with single and dual output models in a DIP24 (3-10W) or 2”x1” (40W) package. They have an input range of 36-160VDC and are equipped with circuits for over/under-voltage protection, over-current and short-circuit and over-temperature protection.

These high-density power converters are realised by using a patented transformer design, which lets the converters perform with an efficiency of up to 90%.

The high dielectric strength plastic housing with high-thermal conductivity is comparable with metal casing and performs the isolation between input-case-output and allows an operating temperature range of -40°C to +105°C.

P-Duke has equipped these converters with internal EMI circuits: IEC/EN 55032 Class A and IEC/EN 50121-3-2, which simplifies the design and saves pcb space. This series is certified according to IEC/EN/UL 62368-1, EN 50155 and EN 45545-2.

Additionally, shock and vibration are compliant with EN 61373 and MIL-STD-810F. With an operating altitude of up to 5000m, a wide operating ambient temperature of -40°C to +105°C, 36-160VDC input range, they are suitable for any safety critical application where a SELV output is mandatory.

Examples are Bus Voltages of 72, 96, 110 VDC which need a safety barrier on the secondary side in rolling stocks, in transportation or in harsh industrial environments.
