‘Ultra efficient’ AC/DC power supplies

XP Power has launched the CHD250 AC/DC power supply series. Said to be ultra efficient, the 250W convection cooled single output units are targeted at applications that require medium power in an open frame, fan-less design.

The CHD250 series offers a low no-load power consumption of less than 0.5W and a efficiency curve said to be almost flat over the entire load range. According to the company, users can expect efficiencies of between 93 and 94% at 230V AC and full load.

With a 3 x 5in standard footprint, the range comprises five models, with outputs of +12, 15, 24, 28 and 48V DC. Standard features include power fail signal, output inhibit and remote sense, plus user adjustable output voltage of +5/-4%. Options include a 5V DC/0.5A standby output for powering memory or logic and a covered version.

Meeting IT 60950-1 and 3rd edition medical ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 safety approvals (achieving 2 x MOPP), as well as EMC specifications EN55022/11 for class B conducted emissions, CHD250 supplies can operate in temperatures ranging from –20 to 70°C with no derating necessary until 50°C.
