Read-intensive enterprise SAS SSD

Toshiba has announced the availability of the PX04SL series, a very read-intensive enterprise SAS solid state drive (SSD). The PX04SL series is optimised for read-intensive application workloads such as data warehousing, web servers, media streaming and video on demand.

The PX04SL is claimed to offer the most cost-effective solutions in Toshiba’s PX04S generation of SAS interface enterprise SSDs. Available in 2TB and 4TB capacities with a 12Gbit SAS interface, the PX04SL is said to enable organisations to minimise total cost of ownership without sacrificing performance. With sustained random read performance of 270K IOPS, the PX04SL is claimed to help read-intensive application workloads achieve superior results.

Optimised for applications demanding 0.5 or less Drive Writes Per Day (DWPD), the family is equipped with customer-tunable features allowing optimisation for maximum performance or power efficiency. Additional features include power-loss protection and full data path protection. Each model supports pin-3 power disable for enclosure services control over storage media. Self-encrypting drive options with instant secure erase are also available.

To combat bottlenecks, this SAS SSD provides high-density storage for efficient data throughput to deliver high performance, reliability and endurance for maximum application scalability.
