Programmable UFT devices target 100Gb/s interfaces

Mixed signal and analogue specialist IDT has announced the third generation of its Universal Frequency Translator (UFT) family of timing devices.

Designed for use in high performance optical networks, wireless base stations and 100GbE interface applications, the units are capable of generating eight different output frequencies with less than 300fs RMS phase jitter over the standard 12kHz to 20MHz integration range. The devices' high level of integration and low jitter is said to eliminate the need for separate frequency translation, redundancy management and jitter attenuation devices – enabling system designers to save cost and board area by consolidating those functions into a single device.
