SiTime announces first Stratum 3 compliant MEMS oscillators

Timing solutions specialist SiTime has introduced a new series of Stratum 3 compliant silicon MEMS timing solutions, which it claims is the first in the industry.

The SiT5301 and SiT5302 are targeted at telecom and networking infrastructure applications and are designed to replace legacy OCXOs and TCXOs. The devices have a frequency stability of ±0.1PPM frequency stability over a commercial temperature range of 0 to 70°C. According to SiTime's vp of marketing Piyish Sevalia, they are available in a 2520 compatible package, the industry's smallest ±100PPB solution. "This represents a 60% reduction in size compared to any other Stratum 3 TCXO and a 10 times reduction compared to OCXOs," Sevalia told New Electronics. "The devices also have the widest frequency range of 1 to 220MHz with 6 digits of accuracy that allows designers to easily program custom frequencies and develop systems with better performance and reliability." Unlike quartz, the SiT530x oscillators have no activity dips, which SiTime claims enables a more stable reference clock and superior system performance over temperature. The devices also have 500femtoseconds of typical integrated RMS phase jitter (12kHz to 20MHz) to meet the stringent requirements of telecom and networking applications. Voltage range is rated between 2.5 and 3.3V.
