Power amplifier IC adopting pure MOS for car audio added to Toshiba portfolio

An IC with high sound quality, low distortion and surface mount is how Toshiba describes the latest addition to its 4-channel power ICs for automotive applications.

It explains that the TCB001FNG is based upon a pure complementary MOS process that is derived from Toshiba’s car audio IC R&D and should reduce cost.

The device, which is housed in a flat HSSOP surface mount package, is said to include functions to detect and prevent abnormal noise and have a maximum output power of 45W in a 4-channel system into a 4Ω load. The supply can vary from 6V to 18V, Toshiba adds, which should allow for operation while the engine is idle or cranking.

In-built functionalities such as mute, standby, offset detection and short detection are also said to be included, along with multiple protection circuits such as thermal shutdown, overvoltage, short to Vcc, short to GND and output-to-output short.
