Power IC simulates engine sounds in electric vehicles

A single channel power IC, designed to bring the sound of a conventional internal combustion engine to electric and hybrid electric vehicles, has been introduced by Toshiba.

Operating from a supply of between 6 and 16V, the TB2909FNG is delivers a maximum output power of 5W (Vcc = 16V, RL = 8O). Total harmonic distortion is rated at 0.08% (for an output power of 0.125W) and output noise voltage is 50µV. Operation is guaranteed between -40 and 110°C. The IC is supplied in a TSSOP16 package measuring 4.4 x 5 x 1mm. Abnormality detection and protection for thermal overload, over-voltage, short circuits to GND or VCC, and speaker-open conditions are provided as standard, supporting functional safety. The device also offers several mute capabilities and a built-in standby switch.
