Murata targets V2X applications with high Q MLCC

Murata has launched the GCQ series of high Q monolithic ceramic capacitors (MLCC). Aimed at automotive V2X applications and available in capacitance values from 0.1 to 47 pF, with C0G temperature characteristic and a rated voltage of 50 Vdc, the series conforms to the requirements of the automotive components standard AEC-Q200 and is intended for use with V2X, ADAS and other automotive applications.

Because it meets the requirements of the DSRC IEEE 802.11p V2X communications standard, for both vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) applications, mainly in Europe and North America using the 5.9 GHz band, the GCQ series can be used for DC filtering and RF matching. The self-resonance frequency characteristic of the 2.2pF device suits DC filtering according to the DSRC IEEE 821.11p requirement.

The series has been packaged in a 0402 size (1.0 mm x 0.5mm) and has an operating temperature range from -55 to + 125C. The high Q rating is achieved by the use of copper internal electrodes.

Mass production is scheduled to start during the first half of 2016.
