Modules feature Intel processors

Five modules based on Intel’s latest processor technology have been launched by Avnet Embedded. Manufactured by MSC Technologies, the modules will feature Atom, Pentium and Celeron processors in two COM Express format (Compact Type 6 and Mini Type 10), one Qseven module and two SMARC products.

Three Atom processors – the E3950, E3940 and E3930 – will be available on COM modules, as well as the Pentium N4200 and the Celeron N3350.

Tim Jensen, business development director for Avnet Embedded EMEA, said: “We consider Intel’s Apollo Lake family of Atom processors the next milestone for the IoT, smart factory automation, medical, home automation and digital signage. Therefore, we have designed Apollo-Lake-based products for all major module formats, aiming at protecting the investment of our customers and assuring long-term availability for them.”

The E3900 series of Apollo Lake processors is manufactured in 14nm technology, providing improved computing and graphics/video performance at low power consumption.

The first engineering samples of the COM Express Compact Type 6 module and the Qseven module are available immediately. The COM Express Mini Type 10 module and the full size SMARC module are scheduled for the end of 2016, while the small size SMARC device will follow in the first quarter of 2017.
