‘Highest performing’ PC/104 board

According to Sundance Multiprocessor Technology, the SMT6657 is the highest performing embedded processing module available in the PC/104 format. The board is said to be suited to DSP applications requiring high-performance integer and floating-point computation.

The SMT6657 features two dual core TMS320C6657 floating-point DSPs coupled to a Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale KU35 FPGA. It features a VITA 57.1 FMC module, enabling features such as high-speed A/D and D/A converters, vision interfaces, sensors and fibre interfaces to be added.

The module can handle symmetric multiprocessing applications, in which the computational load is shared by the two DSPs, and asymmetric applications, where one DSP handles hard real-time processing and the other acts as a supervisor.

Sundance says the SMT6657 complements and supersedes its popular SMT374 board, developed in 2007. The SMT6657 provides 40 times the performance in the same footprint as the SMT374, consumes less power and carries a smaller price tag.
