EW - Kontron adds new KBox C-104-TGL series to industrial computer family

Kontron has unveiled a new generation of its high-end industrial computers in box PC format - the KBox C-104-TGL family - at embedded world 2022.

The systems are based on 11th Gen Intel Core or Intel Xeon W processors, improve determinism in Industry 4.0 environments with integrated TSN and Intel Time Coordinated Computing (Intel TCC) functionality, and enable various real-time applications. The CPUs used have up to eight processing cores and are especially suited for demanding edge workloads and high-end applications with high bandwidth.

The KBox C-104-TGL series systems are equipped with powerful CPUs based on 11th Gen Intel Core i3-11100HE, i5-11500HE/i5-1145GRE, i7-11850HE/i7-1185GRE, Intel Xeon W-11555MRE/W-11865RE or Celeron 6600HE processors.

All systems of the KBox C-104-TGL family have been designed for use in control cabinets in the automation environment. In this context, the KBox C-104-TGL serves as a universal platform for diverse applications such as machine control, inspection and AI-based vision applications, optionally also with additionally integrated Hailo-8 AI accelerator. By means of the optional NVRAM module as well as the integration of fieldbus extensions, it can also be used as a soft PLC platform. The four 2.5 GbE interfaces with TSN functionality can also support time-critical, control-relevant tasks and thus also meet future real-time requirements in the smart factory.

The maintenance-free system enables fanless operation up to +65 °C; the Goldcap equipment and optional redundant power supplies as well as the recovery functionality guarantee maximum system availability and a longer service life.

In addition to up to three DisplayPorts and four 2.5 GbE interfaces, the four variants of the new KBox C-104-TGL family also feature up to two COM ports incl. RS485 option, three USB 3.0 and three USB 2.0 ports each as well as up to four SATA slots. Up to four PCI Express, one mPCIe and three M.2 expansion slots ensure maximum flexibility and expandability. These can also be used to add 4G/5G or even WiFi 6 connectivity to the systems. In addition, further customer-specific adaptations can be implemented quickly and without design risk.
