Delivering usable power at high temperatures

Artesyn Embedded Technologies has unveiled a new family of fanless, conduction-cooled AC-DC power supplies. The LCC600 series has been designed to deliver their full 600 Watt power output across a wide operating temperature range of minus 40 to 85 degrees Celsius.

Unlike power supplies that require output derating above approximately 55 degrees Celsius, an LCC600 supply fed from a nominal 110 Vac input is capable of maintaining its full 600 W load capacity up to its maximum baseplate temperature of 85 degrees Celsius. This is especially cost-effective for users who would otherwise need to budget for larger or additional power supplies.

The LCC600 power supply features a universal 90-264 Vac input with optional 180-305 Vac input – enabling it to be used virtually anywhere in the world without adjustment. The first models available feature a single 28 or 48 Vdc output, with wide adjustment, and 5 V standby voltage output. Artesyn will expand the series to include other voltage output models. It has a 4 x 9 inch footprint and is less than 1U (1.57 inches) high (228 x 101 x 39.8 mm). Typical efficiency is 93 percent.

The Artesyn LCC600 power supply is housed in a robust fully-sealed enclosure with optional IP65 protection against the ingress of dust and water making it suitable for applications that require the power supply to be located in the same outdoor environment.
