Broadband RF VGA offers ultra high linearity

IDT has introduced the F0480, an internally matched 400 to 2700MHz broadband RF variable gain amplifier.

The device combines IDT's Glitch-Free digital step attenuator and Zero-Distortion technologies in a compact 5x5 package. The chip is said to offer better moisture sensitivity and protection from electrostatic discharge (ESD) for a more robust and reliable technology than Gallium arsenide (GaAs) devices, which require external matching and can suffer from delayed secondary avalanching. It is suitable for products suchas cellular 4G base stations, broadband repeaters, distributed antenna systems and microwave backhaul equipment. IDT says the F0480 offers 'industry leading' VGA with +41dBm OIP3 with 13dB of maximum gain, a wide 23dB gain control range with 1dB step resolution, and a noise figure of 4dB, all while consuming only 100mA of current.
