Xilinx ships first Artix-7 fpgas

Xilinx has begun shipping its Artix-7 fpga family, which it says will extend the reach of fpga technology to small form factor applications that require fully programmable capabilities.

The company says the devices will give equipment manufacturers 'unprecedented' levels of integration and the programmability necessary to compete where market growth is outpacing standardisation. "Xilinx introduced the Artix-7 family with edge applications in mind," said Dave Myron, Xilinx's director of fpga platform marketing. "Artix-7 devices extend Xilinx's low cost product portfolio established by the Spartan families, which already play critical roles in applications ranging from 3d tvs, automotive infotainment, industrial control and mobile medical devices." Artix-7 devices are said to offer 35% lower power consumption than competing solutions, with integrated DSP capabilities delivering up to 1,306GMACs of signal processing performance for wideband waveforms.
