USB implementation simplified
In a move aimed at simplifying isolated USB port implementation in medical and industrial equipment, Analog Devices has launched the ADuM4160, said to be the first such device to be made available.
According to the company, the device provides a straightforward way to connect and disconnect peripherals without rebooting or turning off the system.
Featuring Analog's iCoupler digital isolation technology, the ADuM4160 offers 5kV rms medical grade isolation, upstream short circuit protection and fully isolated data rates of 1.5 and 12Mbit/s.
"[The] isolator provides design engineers with a groundbreaking alternative to expensive and time consuming USB isolation schemes that require complex, space intensive transceivers to convert USB's differential bidirectional signals into signals that are more compatible with traditional, discrete isolators," said Ronn Kliger, product line director, Isolation Products, for Analog Devices. "The ADuM4160 contains all USB signalling and isolation in one small ic."
